BT’s Fly Tying Friday: Parachute Rabbit Hole (30 Oct 2026)

This Friday, Gretchen & Al will demonstrate Tuff & EZY Parachutes. Gretchen will start with a Gray Parachute then Al will follow with an Adam’s Parachute tied Wonder Wing style. The WEEKLY TIP might introduce a new (to us) leg-knot tool. You’ll have join us to learn what we mean. Also, we’ll be enjoying the SHARING section so be prepared to show your ideas, etc. After the regular SHARING, we’ll continue with our part of it so be prepared for some fun. Barber Pool Trout Study: CATCH event (02 Nov 2026)

Boise Valley Fly Fishers and VICE Outdoors are helping IDF&G with a trout population study on the Boise River in the Barber Pool section. IDF&G hasn't been able to get their normal electrofishing raft and equipment in there and want to try using anglers for a mark and recapture study. This section of the river isn't stocked by IDF&G and has developed a good population of wild rainbow trout. A trout population study is needed to help IDF&G manage this section better.

We need lots of volunteers to make this project work. PLEASE consider signing up for one of the roles. There will be a second "recapture" event on November 18th that will be posted.

Please sign up for the category you want to help out with:

1. Anglers: Anglers need to be able to catch at least 5 fish the 4-hour session, using tight-line nymphing, indicator nymphing, streamer fishing or dry fly fishing.

2. Netters: We want to land every fish we hook! In addition to netting fish, Netters will be transporting them to the Fishery Biologist stations where they will be tagged, weighed and measured. Netters are also back-up anglers.

3. Fish Biologist Helpers: Help IDF&G Fishery Biologists weigh, measure, tag and release fish. They may also be asked to show up early and help IDF&G carry equipment down to the river.

We want to START fishing at 10am, so please arrive by 9:30AM so you can wader-up and get setup to fish. Matt Housel from VICE Outdoors is coordinating the fishing stations and assignments and will reach out to everyone who signs up as an Angler.

The upper parking lot is small. Please leave it for IDF&G so they can get their equipment to the river. Volunteers should park at the dirt lot BELOW the HWY-21 bridge.

Boise River Fall Cleanup (07 Nov 2026)

BOISE RIVER FALL CLEANUP

We are joining VICE Outdoors to cleanup the Boise River on Saturday, November 7th.

Since they have a large group of volunteers focusing on the river at Ann Morrison Park, we plan to spread-out and focus on a different sections, depending on how many people we get.

When: 9AM Nov 7
Where: Meet at Westmorland Park , 6515 N Glenwood St, Garden City, ID 83714

The river will be down at winter flows. Bring waders if you have them, as we want to clean trash out of the river. A wading staff is recommended for safety.

We will also be removing fishing line from Riverside Pond.
