October club outing will be held on the South Fork of the Boise River below Anderson Dam.
This will be a Day trip, with the Saturday potluck being held at the Reclamation Village site at 4:30PM. BVFF will provide the hot dogs and hamburgers, please bring a side dish to share.
The SouthFork Boise River can have some spectacular fishing in October, the flows are at a very comfortable wading level of 300CFS. We may even be lucky enough to catch a Crane fly hatch, which can be very exciting with big fish making splashy aggressive rises.
Other hatches this time of year include Caddis (maybe even October Caddis), PMD’s, and Baetis. BWO patterns are pretty successful as are hackle stacker patterns.
Nymphing with Copper John’s, Gold Ribbed Hare’s Ear, Pheasant tails, Prince Nymphs, Rainbow Warrior and Zebra Midge patterns can be very productive. Think smaller sizes... 18-22
Streamer fishing can be very productive this time of year as well. Try the trusted Black Wooly Bugger or a Zonker or Sculpin pattern, or you could chuck some serious meat like a Dolly Llama Double Bunny!
If you have never been fishing on the Famed Crown Jewel that is the South Fork of the Boise River, you can google “Anderson Ranch Dam” to find directions, it is typically a 1 1/2 hour drive from Boise heading East on I-84 then take the Sun Valley US HWY 20 exit 95 and head East for about 20 miles and turn Left on Anderson Dam Road. Cross the Dam and turn left downstream.
The fishing is great!
Hope to see you on the river!
You are welcome to camp, there are plenty of RV friendly undeveloped sites along the river (no hook-ups).
The host will not be camping for this outing however, so you will be on your own.
