The Importance of Keeping a Fishing Log

Jason Hansen

Do you remember what fly pattern worked and which ones didn't during the fishing season?  What was the largest fish you caught, and where did you catch it?  Keeping a fishing log provides a record of information that allows you to fine tune your fly fishing skills and stop wasting time with things that don't work.

Jason is the creator and owner of Fish Swami, an on-line fly fishing log that allows you to collect and log information of your success or less-than-success on fishing outings.  Share this information with your friends (or not!) and review your results and data to improve your fishing game.

BIO:

I grew up fishing the waters in the Magic Valley area, then went to the University of Idaho where I was introduced to northern Idaho's cutthroat trout on some fantastic rivers.  I moved to Boise after college and really started fishing in earnest.  After keeping a written fishing log for a couple years, I started Fish Swami in 2006.  I started development of the Fish Swami mobile app a couple years ago and released it this past summer.  Today, I live in Boise with my wife and 4 year old son, fishing less than I used to but as much as I can.

SUMMARY:

Details from past fishing trips can be hard to recall months later, let alone years later.  Keeping a fishing log better prepares you for your future trips.  Fish Swami can save your fishing logs, pictures, notify friends of your fish trips, and more.  We'll talk about the features the web site offers, plus additional capabilities that the Fish Swami mobile app provides.
