Skwalas-- The Hidden Hatch Troy Pearse
Skwalas-- The Hidden Hatch
Troy Pearse
Skwalas are the first chance of the season to cast a big dry fly for trout, but the hatch can be elusive, frustrating and many anglers miss out. Understanding hatch dynamics is especially important for success. Come and learn about the Skwala stonefly and how to fish the hatch from the nymph migration to egg laying adults. Troy Pearse is a club member who is into fishing entomology. His fascination with matching the hatch led him to create the Bugometer (a tool for measuring bug size) and writing an article about matching the hatch for American Angler Magazine called "Size Matters". Troy is an avid fly tyer who has demonstrated tying at the Western Idaho Fly Fishing Expo since 2010 and teaches Spey casting at the NW School of Fly Fishing. REMINDER: Don't forget to also renew your Idaho and/or Oregon fishing license if it has expired.
