BVFF has traditionally held a White Fish Derby in the month of February. During COVID-19 pandemic the VIRTUAL WHITEFISH DERBY was introduced. This event has become popular and has carried forward. Additionally, the traditional in-person White Fish Derby will also be held in March. You can participate in one, the other, or both.
The Virtual White Fish Derby is during the time period of February 1 to February 29

VIRTUAL DERBY RULES:
1. Participation is open to BVFF members and guests. In order to win a prize, you must be a current BVFF member for 2024.
2. Each participant must register for the event. Registration is by using the registration link for this event on the www.BVFF.com website.
3. Derby participants will post directly to the BVFF Facebook Page or email their entries to Outings@bvff.com. In your submittal add the following data:
- A picture of the whitefish held next to a tape measure, BVFF trough, or object that is measurable. If used, make sure the tape is readable. See document HERE on measuring your fish.
- BVFF Throughs are available to borrow. Contact Brian Martin at brian@lfprinc.com to arrange for pickup.
- Date and Time of catch.
- Location (which river, e.g., Boise Main, SF Boise, etc.)
- Fly used (optional)
4. By posting photo you are giving BVFF rights to post your picture on our website, Facebook, and Instagram.
5. Please use this Hashtag on your photo's: #VWFD_id
Update:
As required in our permit from Idaho Fish and Game (IDF&G) for this event, we will comply with this section:
Tournament Permits — All boats and/or anglers are required to have a copy of this permit in their possession during the event.
Prior to the start of the outing, we will forward to you a PDF copy of the permit. We request that you keep a copy of the permit on your mobile phone or print a copy to have you during the BVFF sponsored derby.
