GRAVEL TRACKING PROJECT
We are placing 144 PIT-tagged pieces of gravel in 4 study plots within the area where we did our gravel augmentation. Each Fall we will use a portable PIT tag reader, loaned to us by Biomark, to find the tagged gravel see how long the tagged gravel stays at their original locations.
For this phase of the project we will be creating four 6' x 6' "study plots" and placing 36 pieces of tagged gravel in each one. Some of the gravel will be on the surface, some will be placed 2 inches below the surface and some will be placed 4 inches below the surface.
We need volunteers to help us dig out each study plot and place the tagged gravel, plus a PVC Tube sediment trap.
We want to do this ASAP after doing the gravel augmentation so that we are not disturbing the area during brown trout spawning, so we will do it the day after the augmentation.
We will be working in water that is 1-3 feet deep. Volunteers need to bring "work waders". Knee pads might be a good idea. Tools like a shovel, rake or garden hoe would be helpful. If you have a 5 gallon bucket, bring it for temporary gravel storage.
Meet at the camp area below Sand Hollow Creek at 9AM. We should wrap-up by noon. Bring your fishing rod and we'll fish afterwards!
