BVFF Outing November 2014
Date: November 15, 2014
Host: Dick Frencer
Saturday, November 15th we are headed to Clear Lake. Clear Lake is open year round and is located at the Clear Lake Country Club in Buhl, Idaho. It is a two hour drive to Clear Lake and we are planning to start fishing about 11am. For those who want to car pool or just caravan over we will be meeting in the parking lot in front of Anglers on Overland Road at 8:45 am and leaving at 9:00am.
The lake is 15 acres and has trophy sized rainbow and golden trout. The fee is $10/day for adults and $3.50 for juniors. Fees are paid at the Pro Shop. Float tubes and pontoon boats are best with limited fishing from the bank. Fishing is catch and release. Most stillwater flies work here; chironomids, leeches, Stayner ducktails, woolybuggers of various colors, and pistol petes are good bets.
Clear lake is a good destination to break the mid-winter doldrums. When the inversion has Boise socked in, Clear Lake can be 10 to 20 degrees warmer with clear skies and good fishing. A trip to Clear Lake in the winter can be the ticket for beating your cabin fever and keeping that itch to fish scratched until other waters open up in the spring.
You can enjoy a friendly meal or snack during your fishing trip at the restaurant at Clear Lakes Country Club. They have a variety of menu items and weekend lunch special.
If you are in the mood for a more unique dining experience, then save your appetite for the drive home. Take the scenic river drive through Hagerman. As you enter Hagerman, on the left you will see the Snake River Grill owned by Chef Kirt Martin the host of the nationally televised cooking show, “Cooking on the Wild Side” shown on the Outdoor Channel and many PBS stations. On the menu you will find alligator appetizers, sturgeon, catfish, walleye, moon fish, salmon, and trout, along with a full array chicken, steaks, seafood, burgers and sandwiches.
