  SAVE THE DATES!

  The Outings' committee has planned an outing for most of the months of 2025 and invites BVFF members and their guests to join us On The Water With BVFF. Please take a look at what is planned and mark your calendar for the one(s) that interest you.

  
  

  BVFF members will receive an email invitation to each outing as it is posted. You along with your guest may register online to attend one or all of the outings.

  
  

  Outings are a wonderful way to meet other BVFF members and fly fishing friends in a fun and relaxed setting. For 2025, we head back to Silver Creek and the Wood River area. We also have added outings to the Copper Basin/Big Lost River and Island Park/Henry's Lake. 

  
  

  Thank you to all of our volunteer Outing coordinators! Your pre-outing planning and efforts to gather information about the outing fishery are greatly appreciated.

  
  

  Several outings still need someone to volunteer as the coordinator. You will see these as "Open". Please consider stepping into that role and know that there isn't a significant amount of work to coordinate and pre-plan an outing. The key to success is to provide clear and timely communication with those who register to attend.

  
  

  We'd also like to have an assistant coordinator for each event to help the coordinator with planning and on-site needs for each outing. Please consider assisting with an outing that shows only a coordinator and send your interest to Outings@BVFF.com. Thank you!

• BT’s Fly Tying Friday: The Beattys Tying Two Fun Halloween Patterns

  These sessions are presented by Al and Gretchen Beatty

  The Beattys will just have some fun tying their crazy (or not so crazy) versions of Halloween flies. Al will tie his Furled Demon. There is no recipe but if you want to tie along, then in addition to thread have orange or yellow marabou, pheasant or guinea body feathers, a long shank streamer hook, and chenille (black, orange, red, choice) The WEEKLY TIP will be focused on furling materials. Please bring your favorite Halloween pattern for the SHARING section. If you have friends interested in joining us, please email Al (albeatty2@gmail.com) so he can add them to the notification list to receive the new weekly Zoom link.

  The Diane Moore Nature Center is located on the Boise River near the Highway 21 bridge.  This area is part of the Idaho Bird Observatory and the DMNC.  Recent donations have enabled significant plans for a park and habitat protection in the area, access for anglers, and education for students.  BVFF has been involved in some access and sign projects at the DMNC.  Greg will provide an overview of the projects and future plans.

  Call to all BVFF fly tyers--

  Come join Buz Buszek award winning tyers Al and Gretchen Beatty at their annual fly tying social gathering.  This has become a traditional event and is great fun.  At this event you can meet a few folks, tie a few flies, and no doubt learn a thing or two about fly tying.   Fly tying expertise is not a requirement.   It is a nice morning, and of course the flies go to a good cause.

  All flies tied are donations and will go to boxes to be raffled during the year, or at the auction-social this spring, thus helping fund BVFF activities.

  COVID Protocol:   Vaccinated tyers and masks are appreciated, but it is not a requirement.

  PLEASE DO NOT ATTEND IF YOU ARE ILL

  What to bring:

  • Fly tying tools-- vise, tools, etc.  You should have a pedestal base, as the tables are thick and clamps do not work.
  • Small lamp
  • Extension power cord for your lamp
  • Fly tying materials, as required for your selected patterns
  • Some good stories, truthful or not
  • Your own snacks-- Al and Gretchen will provide coffee.

  Please register so the Beatty's know how much tying space to provide

  The Boise Valley Fly Fishers are pleased to announce the 21th Annual Western Idaho Fly Fishing Expo to be held on January 30-January 31, 2026.  This event is now one of the premier fly fishing shows in the Northwest.

  The event will be held at Expo Idaho (www.expoidaho.com) in Garden City, Idaho, with indoor casting ponds, demonstration fly tying, and a fly tying theater that will showcase the art and skills of creating hand-tied flies.  Educational presentations on fly fishing and destination fly fishing by local and regional experts.  This year the Expo will highlight fly fishing education, with experts covering topics of how to fish, where to fish, casting, entomology, and tackle setups for both new and experienced anglers.

  Be sure your fly fishing friends, neighbors, and relatives are aware of the event.  Join them in attending.

  ENTRANCE FEES:

           $15 Adults Each Day

          $10 Students Each Day

  The Boise Valley Fly Fishers is the oldest fly fishing organization in Idaho, founded in 1971. The Boise metropolitan area has grown significantly in the past few years, and so has the local interest in fly fishing.  Our mission to promote the sport of fly-fishing through education and conservation activities is dependent upon a successful Expo. Instruction in fly tying, casting, and fly fishing ethics has been the foundation of this event.  We plan to expand our educational workshops this year, while continuing a wide range of dynamic lectures.
